CableLabs Unveils Stewardship and Fulfillment Interfaces (SaFI) for Canoe

--Interfaces Are Key Component of US Cable Industry's Plans for Unified Advanced Advertising Platform

US cable-industry research, development and standardization organization, CableLabs, announced Wednesday the release of a new set of specifications, called the Stewardship and Fulfillment Interfaces (SaFI), which it says were created to further the development of advanced cable advertising and other interactive products, and which will be a key part of Project Canoe, the US cable-industry's initiative to create a national, cross-operator, unified platform for interactive and addressable advertising.

Canoe Ventures Suspends Plans to Launch its Community Addressable Messaging Product

--Will Instead Focus its Efforts on EBIF-Based Interactive TV Advertising

Canoe Ventures--the company that is tasked with implementing Project Canoe, the US cable industry's initiative to create a national unified platform for interactive and addressable advertising (it is backed by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Cablevision and Bright House)--has suspended its plans to launch what was to be its first product, the Community Addressable Messaging (CAM) system, according to a report Thursday by Todd Spangler in the US cable-industry trade publication, Multichannel News.

CableLabs, Canoe Ventures Unveil Advanced Advertising 1.0 Specification (NEW)

At the NCTA Cable Show in Washington, DC Monday, US cable industry research, development and standardization body, CableLabs, and Canoe Ventures--the company that is implementing Project Canoe, the US cable industry's initiative to create a national unified platform for interactive and addressable advertising (it is backed by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Cablevision and Bright House)-- announced a new draft reference architecture specification that is designed to further the development of advanced cable advertising products.

[itvt] Blogcast: BIAP Execs on the Company's New ITV Deal with Time Warner Cable

Earlier this week, Plano, Texas-based interactive TV technology provider, BIAP, announced that it has signed a five-year license agreement with Time Warner Cable that will see the latter using BIAP's ETV User Agent in its advanced advertising platform. According to the companies, the BIAP software will enable Time Warner Cable digital set-top boxes to run EBIF applications created by the operator itself, or by third parties such as broadcast networks. In addition, the BIAP ETV User Agent will support a new version of Time Warner Cable's MDN navigator, the companies say.

The contours of Project Canoe, the US cable industry's hitherto
secretive initiative to create a national unified platform for interactive
and addressable advertising, became a little clearer last week when the
MSO's behind the initiative announced the launch of a joint venture,
Canoe Ventures, and the appointment of advertising industry veteran,
David Verklin, as the new venture's CEO.
Verklin, who will join Canoe
Ventures on August 4th, will be tasked with leading its efforts to create
shared processes and standards for audience targeting, interactivity and
measurement in multiplatform advertising across cable systems
