In order to mark the 20th anniversary of its satirical cartoon series, "The Simpsons," the Fox broadcast network plans to hold its first ever "on-air scavenger hunt." From November 9th through 13th, viewers will be encouraged to watch the network each night to find "Simpsons" references, shout-outs, tributes and clues (e.g., "House" star, Hugh Laurie, holding a can of Duff beer) incorporated into its primetime programming and on-air promos. Viewers who spot the "Simpsons" shout-outs can then log on to http://www.fox.com/scavengerhunt each night in order to test their knowledge for an opportunity to unlock daily downloadable extras and in order to enter to win the scavenger hunt's grand prize, which consists of a trip for two to Los Angeles to attend a "Simpsons" table read with the show's voice cast and producers, a home entertainment system, "Simpsons" DVD's and other merchandise, and tickets to Universal Studios (note: in order to win prizes, viewers must be at least 13 years old). The deadline for submissions is November 14th.
Fox also recently launched an interactive contest that gives viewers the chance to help create an animated character for "The Simpsons" (see the article published on itvt.com, October 19th).
