Exclusive: Interactive TV Emmy Nominees

Emmysgoldstatue2005_11The Awards Working Group of the Interactive Media Peer Group of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has selected the finalists for the 2005-6 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Television. (Note: the Los Angeles-based Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is one of two organizations behind the US television industry’s annual Emmy Awards–the other is the New York-based National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.Both organizations have, for some time now, given out Emmy Awards for interactive television; the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ ITV Emmys are for creative achievement while the National Academy’s Emmys are technology-focused.) The ITV Emmys will be presented at the Television Academy’s Creative Arts Awards event on August 19th at the Shrine Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles.

The Television Academy’s interactive TV Emmys this year recognize achievement in two categories: programming designed for television and programming designed for new delivery platforms.

The nominees for the Award for Outstanding Achievement for Enhanced or Interactive Programming: Television are:

  • AOL Music on Demand (including broadband, cable and Microsoft Media Center versions of the service): AOL/Time Warner Cable/Zetools. Cnnechostarapp2006_1
  • CNN Enhanced: CNN (note: for an in-depth article on CNN Enhanced, see [itvt] Issue 6.74).
  • DirecTV Interactive Sports (including such services as NFL Sunday Ticket, SportsMix and NCAA Mega March Madness): DirecTV.
  • TiVo Service: TiVo.

The nominees for the Award for Outstanding Achievement for Enhanced or Interactive Programming: New Delivery Platforms are:

  • ABC.com Full Episode Streaming Player: ABC.
  • Danny Bowles and the Jade Treasure, Stranger Adventures: Riddle Productions in association with Red Car.
  • MLB.TV Mosaic: Major League Baseball/Ensequence.
  • Vongo Video Download Service: Starz Entertainment Group.

Ensequencemlb2006sm2 The nominees were selected by the membership of the Television Academy’s Interactive Media Peer Group, who made their selections through an online voting system. The winners have now been chosen by a "Blue Ribbon" panel that met July 10th at the Academy, and they will be announced at the American Film Institute’s Digital Content Festival (takes place July 26th). The Blue Ribbon panel was composed of:
