US broadcast network, ABC, announced earlier this month that the
Move Networks-powered ABC.com Full Episode Player achieved its
best viewership figures to date in May, thanks in large part to the
availability of the season finales of the primetime shows, “Lost,”
“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Ugly Betty.”
According to the company, citing data supplied by Move Networks,
ABC.com users watched a record 815 million minutes of full-length
episodes on the player during the month, representing a 53% increase
over the previous month and a 110% increase over May, 2007. In
addition, ABC says, viewers watched 37 million episodes, representing
an increase of 27% over the previous month, and each viewer generally
watched multiple episodes during the month. “Clearly, the demand for
ABC’s high-quality television programming continues to grow online,
particularly among younger viewers,” Albert Cheng, EVP of digital
media at the Disney-ABC Television Group, said in a prepared
statement. “Our digital media team is dedicated to bringing new
innovations to the ABC.com Full Episode Player, and we expect that
these efforts to enhance the online viewing experience, combined with
ABC Entertainment’s unparalleled content, will result in continued
viewership growth in the months ahead.”
ABC claims that, since its launch in 2006, 400 million episodes have
been initiated through the ABC.com Full Episode Player. The company
has previously announced plans to add several new features to the
player this fall, including true full-screen viewing with no browser
border; closed captioning; content-sharing tools that will allow users to
share video links via email or by embedding them in other Web sites,
blogs and social networks; and enhanced navigation and video search
capabilities that will allow users to search for series graphically,
alphabetically, by genre, or by popularity.

ABC’s new player is really making me angry! Early Sept ‘08 when they announced the arrival of their “new and improved” player, I have been left in the dark trying to find ways to watch Lost and Grey’s Anatomy. I am TRYING to watch season 4 of Lost so I can actually watch it on TV in Jan. I would LOVE to see the season 5 premiere of Grey’s this century. The only thing this player does is freeze my mozilla and I know all my programs are up to date. I have been watching this player religiously for over a year now. Boooooo ABC. Boooooooooooooooooooooooo.
I am having trouble too! Before this update, it worked great for me. Now I can’t get it to play on 3 different computers & browsers!
I’m having the same problem. I used to be able to catch up on episodes but since the new Full Episode player came out it just goes into a neverending state of “transferring date from ll.media.abc.com. I’m also using Mozilla.
I don’t use Mozilla but ever since the new and improved version came out, all I get is a gray screen that says “done” at the bottom. Thankfully I have a DVR but this was always such a convenient way to catch up…
What new and improved. I can’t get anything to open for me. This is not user friendly. I purposely didn’t DVR ABC shows knowing I could watch them online. What do I do now?
I, too, am upset with ABC. That full episode player was a great deal. If anybody figures out a way to make it work, let me know
I loved watching episodes before the player showed up. I was trying to catch up so I could watch them on tv but I tried 4 different browsers and still can’t get the new player to work!
