A company called Vibe Solutions Group, which until now has specialized in providing branded video and publishing solutions to the broadband industry, has launched its first consumer-targeted product: a free video aggregation service, called Pyro.TV, which it says offers a "channel-centric" approach to watching and sharing broadband videos. "There is an explosion of video content on the Web today; however, where can consumers go to get a customized, channel viewing experience all in one place?" Vibe CEO, Ted Briscoe, said in a prepared statement. "Pyro.TV is specifically designed to give users a compelling TV-like viewing experience organized around their own interests and viewing habits. With its rich set of channel viewing, creation and sharing features, Pyro.TV creates a new video experience for consumers."
In a press release announcing Pyro.TV, Vibe enumerated what it considers to be the new service's highlights and/or differentiators in what is, obviously, an increasingly crowded broadband video market:
- Unlike most broadband video sites, the service is organized around channels, rather than individual videos, which the company claims makes for a "more natural, streamlined approach" to watching video on the Internet. End-users can customize their channels to match their interests and create a profile that is linked to their channel line-up.
- The service's channels are continually updated with new videos "so consumers never have to skip around the site" in order to discover new content.
- The service's channels can be viewed without downloading an application: because Vibe hosts all the service's video content, the company says, end-users "simply pick their channels, click on videos and begin watching."
- The service's channel-centric approach also extends to user-generated content: a channel-creation tool allows end-users to create their own channel, complete with logo, multiple videos and sharing features.
- The service allows end-users to rate their favorite channels and to share them via email, links, or publishing to third-party Web sites and social networking services. They can also publish videos to a service, dubbed Vibe Journal, which allows users to comment on and archive video titles.
- The service provides content-owners with revenue-sharing opportunities, as well as an administrative interface for tracking and controlling their media assets.
- The Pyro.TV Engine can accommodate a range of video content, including RSS video feeds and content directly provisioned from networks, as well as user-submitted channels.
