--Ziddio also Teams with HBO on Video Talent Search
Comcast's recently launched user-generated content service, Ziddio, is teaming with formats developer/production company, Endemol, on a contest that offers the public the chance to transform their creative ideas into a real television show. Dubbed "Ten Day Take," the contest invites consumers to submit a program idea on video, and will give the winner the chance to have their video submission "fast-tracked" into production, with the support of Endemol's production expertise and resources and a $50,000 production budget. The resulting pilot, as well as a special "reality-style" series documenting its production, will be completed in 10 days (hence the competition's title), and made available on Ziddio's Web site and on Comcast's ON DEMAND cable VOD service. "We are thrilled to launch this new partnership that now allows anyone with a great concept for a show to take it from idea to broadcast, which is indicative of where we see the industry moving," Jon Vlassopulos, VP of business development, digital media and strategic planning at Endemol USA, said in a prepared statement. "We are also proud to be presenting our first digital reality series, 'Ten Day Take,' which gives people insight into how shows get made in Hollywood."
In other Ziddio news: the service is collaborating with HBO's US Comedy Arts Festival on a talent-search competition dubbed "No Talent Nation." Aspiring comedians can submit short comedy or musical-parody videos that will be featured both on the Ziddio Web site and on Comcast's cable VOD platform, and 10 winners will receive the chance to perform live at the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen from February 28th through March 4th. The contest is being sponsored by online music service, Rhapsody.com. Ziddio has launched a number of user-generated contests since its beta-launch in November. They include "Join the Jedi Order" with HBO/Cinemax and "Clean House Search for the Messiest Home" with the Style channel (the winner of the latter contest will be featured on a special episode of the channel's "Clean House" series).
