Red Bee Media (note: the latter was formerly a BBC business unit called BBC Broadcast, which last year was sold to Creative Broadcast Services, a company 65% owned by Macquarie Capital Alliance Group and 35% owned by Macquarie Bank) has named its CTO, Chris Howe, director of emerging technologies. According to the company, his new role will see Howe focusing on Red Bee's "technical vision," and ensuring that its strategic plans remain relevant as new technologies and new uses of existing technologies come into play. He will also be tasked with expanding the company's understanding of new technologies and of the likely industry and consumer reactions to those technologies. In addition, he will be responsible for identifying new technology partners for the company.
Howe has served as Red Bee's CTO since 2004, in which role he has been responsible for the day-to-day management of technology, as well as for the strategic direction of the business. According to Red Bee, he has over 20 years' experience in both the delivery of strategy for technology development and the practical implementation of technology systems. He is the main technical architect of Red Bee's Broadcast Centre in West London. "In the year since we launched the Red Bee Media brand, the business has been launching new services such as Digital Hive and Sherpa while planning for rapid growth, including international expansion and product development," Red Bee CEO, Pam Masters, said in a prepared statement. "Chris has already built key relationships with technology partners like AMD and Microsoft, and we want to continue to harness Chris's unparalleled broadcast engineering experience and extensive industry network to carry on growing and developing cutting-edge solutions for broadcasters, content owners and platform owners."
