Peter Levinsohn Named President of Fox Interactive Media

Peterlevinsohn2006smNews Corp. has named 18-year company veteran, Peter Levinsohn, president of Fox Interactive Media, following the resignation of that unit's previous president, his distant cousin, Ross Levinsohn. "Peter is a highly respected executive who has proven himself an effective leader [and] who not only has a deep understanding of this company, but has also overseen one of the most aggressive digital expansions of any media organization," News Corp. president and COO, Peter Chernin, said in a prepared statement. "At this point in FIM's evolution, Peter's adept leadership, keen knowledge of the complexities of the digital space and ability to work skillfully across multiple business lines makes him the ideal person to lead this important asset into the future."

Peter Levinsohn has served as president of digital media for the Fox Entertainment Group since 2004. His responsibilities in that post included developing and managing overall digital media strategy, identifying digital content distribution opportunities, pursuing strategic initiatives with major technology companies, and leading the company's efforts in content protection. He has negotiated a number of deals to distribute Fox content on multiple platforms: among other things, he played a key role in negotiating Fox's revenue-sharing agreement for multiplatform content with its station affiliates, and led the Fox on Demand initiative, which made a number of the broadcaster's primetime series available free of charge on MySpace.com and the MyFoxLocal network of station-affiliate Web sites. In addition, he led Fox's development of its VOD and electronic sell-through business, including recent deals with iTunes, Amazon, AOL, MSN, Movielink and CinemaNow. Concurrently with his role as Fox's president of digital media, he served as the company's president of worldwide pay television, overseeing the distribution of its films and TV programs to pay-TV, pay-per-view, VOD and electronic sell- through outlets throughout the world. He graduated from Pepperdine university in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

In related news: the Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. has promoted Jamie McCabe from SVP to EVP of worldwide pay-per-view, VOD and electronic sell-through. He will be responsible for all elements of the distribution and marketing of Fox movies and TV programs in the VOD and electronic sell-through markets. In the past, he has been responsible for implementing deals between Fox and a range of new media companies, including Amazon.com, AOL, CinemaNow and Movielink. "Our goal is to make available Fox content to the broadest audience possible by carefully blending existing distribution channels with all of the new technology platforms," McCabe said in a prepared statement "It's a rapidly growing area where you need to constantly innovate, and I am excited about the opportunity to continue to grow these businesses at Fox."
