RCN Launches Aptiv Digital EPG

Triple-play provider, RCN, has launched an EPG from Aptiv Digital (note: the latter was formerly known as Pioneer Digital Technologies, but was spun off from Pioneer Corp. last year) in its Boston, New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Washington, DC and Chicago cable TV markets, replacing the Gemstar-TV Guide EPG that it previously used. According to the company, the new guide offers its customers enhanced search and parental control features, and provides them with easy-to-use and "advanced" control over their digital entertainment and services: it expands the range of parental control options to include restriction by content advisory (such as "Adult Situations" and "Fantasy Violence"), in addition to standard parental control features allowing for restrictions on time, ratings, and channel, and title blocking for adult programs. "RCN chose Aptiv Digital’s interactive navigation platform to provide this service, which is designed to optimize Motorola-based digital cable set-tops," RCN’s VP of operations, Don Channell, said in a prepared statement. "During the past month, RCN customers have been notified of the new interactive guide as well as the enhanced features they would be receiving and their changeover date."
