Tandberg Television--the company which over the past year or so has purchased VOD infrastructure provider, N2 Broadband, interactive TV technology and services provider, GoldPocket Interactive, IPTV content delivery company, SkyStream Networks, and Internet video company, Zetools--has developed a two-screen, Web-based, broadcast-synchronized interactive TV application to accompany the Discovery Channel and Discovery HD Theater series, "Discovery Atlas" (airs Sunday nights at 9:00PM ET/PT throughout October). Each episode of the show is devoted to exploring a different country: the show's initial four-week run sees it offering episodes on China, Italy, Brazil and Australia (note: Discovery is planning a five-year run for the show, during which it will explore 20 countries). Tandberg Television's ITV application provides viewers with trivia questions synchronized with the show's content; bonus information on cultures and personal stories profiled in the series; in-depth facts and figures on each show's profiled country; and a puzzle that invites viewers to collect jigsaw- puzzle pieces and assemble them into postcard images. "'Discovery Atlas' is a fantastic example of the multiplatform experience that today's leading television creators are bringing to enrich the viewing experience," Braxton Jarratt, Tandberg's SVP of marketing and business development, said in a prepared statement. "Live interactive enhancements, as illustrated with our Discovery deployment, showcase the exciting possibilities for interactive television."
