Court TV is jumping on the user-generated content bandwagon. The channel is inviting its viewers--including any law-enforcement personnel who happen to watch it--to "capture the most outrageous, can't-make-this-stuff-up, crime-related acts" on video and to submit their videos to a new Web site, dubbed "R.E.D TAPE" (www.courttv.com/redtape) that is part of its broadband video service, R.E.D (note: R.E.D, whose name stands for "Real, Exciting, Dramatic" and which launched in June, offers downloadable Court TV programming, VOD options and mobile verdict alerts). Viewers whose videos are subsequently aired on R.E.D will receive $100, while those whose videos are aired on Court TV's flagship linear channel (on the show, "Video Justice") will receive $500. In order to drive interest in its new user-generated content initiative, Court TV has launched an advertising and marketing campaign that targets such law-enforcement Web sites as Officer.com, Policeone.com and Policemag.com. "We see R.E.D. TAPE creating an on-line community for law enforcement and citizens to view and share compelling videos of crimes caught-on-tape," Court TV general manager, Marc Juris, said in a prepared statement. "We want to entertain viewers, but also show potential lawbreakers that cameras are everywhere, and that today, it's pretty difficult to get away with a crime without being recorded."
