--Deal will See OMN Offering Line-Up of National Geographic Programming
The Open Media Network (OMN)--a non-profit broadband VOD service which features an array of DVD-quality programming from US public broadcasters and other sources and which is powered by the peer-to-peer "grid delivery" technology that Internet infrastructure company, VeriSign, recently acquired through its purchase of Kontiki (note: programming delivered via the service can be viewed on a variety of devices, including mobile phones, PC's and set-top boxes)--has entered a partnership with broadband video distribution company, FilmClix, that will see it offering a line-up of programming from National Geographic (note: FilmClix is licensed by National Geographic to distribute its titles). Consumers will now be able to access episodes of various National Geographic shows by downloading them at www.omn.org through the free OMN Viewer. Episodes are priced at $2.69 each for a four-day rental with unlimited viewing privileges, and are protected by Microsoft Windows Media Player DRM technology. OMN claims to use higher encoding fidelity in order to ensure high-quality video display. National Geographic programs now available through OMN include news and public affairs titles such as "Inside the Pentagon," "Air Force One," and "Inside the Secret Service"; science and technology titles such as "Destination Space"; arts and culture titles such as "Afghanistan Revealed," "China's Lost Girls," "Tibet's Hidden Kingdom," "Inside the Vatican," and "Beyond the Movie: Lord of the Rings"; sports and recreation titles such as "Inside the NFL" and "Basketball Diplomacy"; and education and learning titles such as "Rainforest," "Through the Lens," and "Secret Weapons."
