CNN International has launched a text-based interactive TV service on the digital platform of UK cable operator, Telewest (note: the latter recently merged with the UK's other cable provider, ntl). The service, which is accessed via the red button, allows Telewest's digital subscribers to access stories, weather information, and financial updates, as well as a schedule guide. The service was built by interactive TV production company, Two Way TV. "The interactive television service ensures that our viewers have more information available at their fingertips in an easy-to-use format," CNN International business development manager, Chris Press, said in a prepared statement. "We have already launched our own broadband service, CNN Pipeline, which is proving very popular, and these interactive developments underline CNN's dedication to enhancing viewer experience and adding complementary services." (Note: for an in-depth overview of an interactive TV application offered by CNN on US satellite TV provider EchoStar's DISH Network, see [itvt] Issue 6.74.)
In other CNN International news: 1) the company has launched its flagship linear channel on RealNetworks' premium broadband service, SuperPass; 2) the company has launched a VOD service on UK IPTV platform, HomeChoice.
