Softel vdm Releases New Version of its TV Place-Shifting Technology

Punta Gorda, Florida-based Softel vdm has released version 2.0 of its TV place-shifting technology, MyTinyTV.Version 1.0 of the technology, which was released around three months ago, allowed consumers to watch their home TV channels–delivered via the Internet or a local network–on a Pocket PC device (note: to use MyTinyTV, consumers must have a TV tuner in their home PC, connected to their cable or satellite service; the system provides an interface for the user’s PC’s with channel selection, and a program guide with detailed programming descriptions); the new version extends the technology’s capabilities to regular desktop PC’s and laptops. Other improvements, according to Softel vdm, include automatic speed adaptation, full VGA support (640×480), selectable input sources (Svideo, Composite), faster browsing of TV listings, support for third-party Pocket PC players, and support for more TV tuners. The company also claims that MyTinyTV 2.0 automatically configures most routers and eliminates conflicts with other TV software, thus making it considerably easier to install than the initial version of the technology: "Particularly, the installation has been made much easier with this new release," Softel vdm president, Mike van der Meulen, said in a prepared statement. "A fair number of users struggled with their routers at home, which prevented them from accessing MyTinyTV when they were on the road." While MyTinyTV is priced at $59 (note: the price includes a year of free TV listings), Softel vdm is currently offering free, fully functional seven-day downloads of the product.
