Comcast: VOD, PVR, HD Drove Record Digital Subscriber Acquisitions

Comcastlogo_3 The US’s largest cable MSO, Comcast, says that increasing demand for such digital features as VOD, PVR and HDTV resulted in it acquiring 340,000 new digital subscribers in the first quarter–a company record–and posting a 6% increase in video revenue. According to the company, pay-per-view revenues increased 29% from the year-ago quarter, driven by movie and event purchases from its Comcast On Demand VOD service (the company says that pay-per-view revenue has been increasing more than 20% on average over the past two years, thanks to its roll-out of VOD). 28% of digital customers subscribed to PVR and/or HDTV services as of the end of the first quarter, compared to 17% at the end of the year-ago quarter.
