At the NAB show in Las Vegas this week, Broadband TV infrastructure company, Narrowstep (note: the company recently secured $7.4 million in new funding), launched a new technology, dubbed "mBed." The technology, which has been incorporated into the company’s flagship telvOS platform (note: telvOS stands for "Television Operating System"), is a tool that allows video content providers to extend the reach of their broadband TV channels by embedding (hence the new technology’s name) direct streams from those channels into partner Web sites. According to Narrowstep, it also supports auto bandwidth detection, 24/7 scheduled content, VOD, searchable video, live streaming, and dynamic advertising. The company says that mBed has been engineered 1) to enable consumers to watch video channels on partner Web sites without having to click through to a new page or launch a pop-up; 2) to open up the full channel from within the video frame; 3) to track performance of each placement; 4) to enable all functions to be controlled through telvOS remotely; and 5) to be viewed in full-screen mode in high quality via a double click.
