Orange France Launches Mobile TV Portal Using Bluestreak’s MachBlue

Dallas, Texas-based Bluestreak Network (note: the company was founded in spring 2002, when John Reed, who currently serves as its chairman, and his partner, Tom Peters, who serves as its president, used their own financial resources to purchase the interactive TV assets of Montreal-based software company, ZAQ, and the streaming-media assets of networking company, Source Media: Bluestreak’s current product portfolio is based on patented technologies from both of those forbears) says that French wireless network operator, Orange France, has launched a mobile TV portal, dubbed "Orange World TV," using Bluestreak’s MachBlue for Mobile platform. The portal provides 52 channels across 3G and EDGE networks, and allows Orange France customers to access daily program guides both for broadcast and for mobile-exclusive channels; it also lets them find programs by content type (for example, broadcast, film, news, music, sports and children’s programming). Bluestreak says that MachBlue for Mobile allows all program information to be loaded on the mobile phone screen while the customer watches TV. Orange World TV is the second rich-media mobile portal that Orange France has launched using MachBlue: in February, it launched a MachBlue-based soccer portal, dubbed "Orange League 1."

MachBlue for Mobile was unveiled at last year’s IBC show. It is designed to enable enhanced navigation and rich media portal capabilities on mobile devices, and is targeted both at operators and device manufacturers. Both the TV and the mobile versions of MachBlue are based on an optimized implementation of Flash and ActionScript, and are designed to support highly demanding interactive TV applications, such as games, multimedia portals, and EPG’s: Bluestreak claims that the entire platform operates in less than 1MB of memory, and allows products and services authored in Flash to run on set-top boxes and mobile phones with a consistent look-and-feel.
