OpenTV has added new modules to its OpenTV Participate platform that support TV auctions and sales.(Note: OpenTV Participate enables viewers to participate in real-time or time-shifted broadcast-related competitions, votes, polls and games, via mobile phones, the Web, IVR and set-top boxes. For an in-depth overview of OpenTV Participate, see [itvt]’s interview with OpenTV’s VP of global sales and marketing for participation TV, Amos Manasseh, who is the executive in charge of the platform, in Issue 6.61.) According to the company, the new modules are fully integrated with existing OpenTV Participate modules, including third-party billing, fulfillment, accounts, customer care, bonus, loyalty and marketing, and allow operators to run a dedicated shopping or auction channel, or individual shopping or auction events. Like the platform’s other modules, the new modules employ what OpenTV refers to as "wizard-based logic," enabling, the company claims, non-technical personnel to create almost any type of sales or auction event, including bid-up and bid-down auction formats. The modules also include support for selling content, allowing broadcasters to offer pay-per-use and on-demand services, such as mobile TV clips, downloads and video streaming, on any platform, the company claims. "Our vision for OpenTV Participate is to enable broadcasters to convert passive viewers into active customers by offering compelling interactive services and building a profile of their viewers’ TV habits," Amos Manasseh said in a prepared statement. "These new modules further advance this vision, as well as OpenTV Participate’s unique position in the marketplace, benefiting both broadcasters and advertisers alike." OpenTV is demo’ing OpenTV Participate at MIPTV/MILIA in Cannes this week, and will also demo it at the upcoming NCTA National Show in Atlanta and at the NAB show in Las Vegas.
