UK-based interactive TV games company, PlayJam–a subsidiary of Liberty Media-owned ITV middleware and applications provider, OpenTV–has signed a two-year deal with JPM Interactive, under which the latter will provide it with games for deployment on its PlayJam interactive TV games channel on the Sky satellite and ntl and Telewest digital cable platforms. Initially, three games–"Hangman," "Battleships" and "Sports Quiz"–are being offered on PlayJam as a result of the deal, with additional titles to follow in the future. The games are priced at £1 per play; scores, players’ progress and the awarding of prizes are being centrally managed by JPM’s Gameology content-delivery platform. According to JPM, the platform, for which a patent is pending, allows games providers to offer the same pay-per-play gaming experience across set-tops, mobiles, the Web and private networks. JPM also claims that Gameology can deliver several Skill With Prizes (SWP) games simultaneously through one centrally controlled system, thus ensuring that a player’s progress throughout each game can be tracked, while content and questions are adapted to each player’s skill level. The official commercial launch of the games follows a three-month pilot deployment which, PlayJam claims, saw them being played by 30,000 viewers per month. "JPM Interactive offers a great mix of compelling content and game management tools that will help us attract many more new users to Sky Digital’s, ntl’s and Telewest Broadband’s interactive services," PlayJam managing director, Mickey Kalifa, said in a prepared statement. "By running JPM’s Gameology system, we can now increase player loyalty by tailoring the end-user experience to the specific skill levels of the player."
