PixelPlay, the interactive TV games company that was formed last year from the merger of Pixel Technologies and PlayTV (note: for more on the merger and the strategy behind it, see [itvt]'s interview with PixelPlay president and CEO, Ron Chaimowitz, in Issue 5.92 Part 1), has been named "Game Developer of the Year" by US satellite TV provider, EchoStar (operates the DISH Network). This is the third year running that PixelPlay--which offers a children's ITV service on the DISH Network called KidsWise--has received the award, which was announced March 10th at EchoStar's annual DISH Network ITV Summit, held near its Englewood, Colorado headquarters. Criteria taken into account in the judging of the award included timeliness in completing the service, the impact of the service for customers, quality assurance, and originality. "PixelPlay continues to demonstrate exceptional commitment to quality and professionalism in their design, integration, launch and commercial services," EchoStar's director of interactive TV programming, Scott Higgins, said in a prepared statement (note: Higgins was a recipient of a 2005 [itvt] Award for Leadership in Interactive Television). "Our engineering team continues to be impressed by PixelPlay's technology expertise and understanding of our customer needs while passing our stringent quality-assurance standards."
