OpenTV in Multi-Year Agreement with Vestel Group

Liberty Media-owned interactive TV middleware and applications provider, OpenTV, will today announce that it has signed a multi-year agreement with European consumer electronics and white-label products manufacturer, Vestel Group, that will see its Core Middleware 1.1 deployed on Vestel's next-generation set-top boxes. The first company to use the OpenTV-powered Vestel boxes is Turkish satellite TV provider, DigiTurk, which actually began deploying the boxes to its 800,000 subscribers in the second quarter. "We are pleased to welcome Vestel to the family of manufacturers deploying set-top boxes enabled with OpenTV's market-leading Core Middleware," Ben Bennett, SVP and managing director for OpenTV's European operations, said in a prepared statement. "This agreement creates an additional base for us to leverage and extend our suite of advanced digital television content, applications, and technology solutions. We look forward to working with Vestel to develop solutions for Digiturk's subscribers and continuing to support the growth of advanced digital television services in Turkey." According to OpenTV, over 30 set-top box manufacturers around the world have deployed over 100 models of digital cable and satellite set-top boxes, powered by its middleware, in 96 countries.
