Cambridge, UK-based IPTV set-top box vendor, Amino, says that Galaxy Satellite Broadcasting has ordered a "significant volume" of its AmiNET 110 set-top boxes to enable its new SUPERSUN IPTV service in Hong Kong. The service, whose shareholders include See Corporation and Television Broadcasts Limited, offers 40 channels of broadcast programming, including locally themed programs. "It was important to work with Amino on this project, as the company is a leader in its field and ensured pre-tested interoperability with our chosen hardware and software suppliers," Galaxy Satellite Broadcasting COO, Jackey Chan, said in a prepared statement. According to Amino, the AmiNET 110 features an Ethernet input and flexible audio/video output, together with Dolby Digital output and an RF Modulator output to provide multicast and on-demand video control. The box is also compatible with ReadyLinks Smartfoot and Coaxsys home networking adapters, in order to allow operators to avoid having to lay CAT5 cable throughout the home.
In other Amino news: the company says that Portuguese telco, Novis, is planning to use its set-tops for an IPTV service, which will be branded "Clix Smartv." A commercial test launch of the service, using Amino’s AmiNET 110 set-tops is scheduled to take place this month in Lisbon and Porto, and a full commercial deployment in all Portugal’s major cities is planned for 2006. The service will feature VOD and an EPG: during the test launch, it will offer 50 linear channels, increasing to 100 when the full commercial deployment begins. "We are very pleased to be working with Amino to bring IPTV to Portugal for the first time," Susanna Barbato, Novis’s managing director of IPTV services, said in a prepared statement. "Amino’s proven interoperability and excellent track record made them the obvious choice for us. With a strong IPTV offering, we expect to create a large subscriber base in Portugal over the coming years." Amino claims that its boxes’ IntAct software allows integration with middleware, conditional access systems, browsers and VOD servers from a range of technology providers in the IPTV space.
