Verimatrix's VCAS Securing Japanese IPTV/VOD Deployment

IPTV content security specialist, Verimatrix, says that Japan's OnDemand TV has deployed its Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS) to protect VOD and broadcast content over the NTT East and NTT West broadband systems. OnDemand TV is a joint venture between NTT West, NTT East and Itochu; it uses IP v6-based fiber networks with MPEG-2 compression to deliver a VOD service and 27 broadcast channels to subscribers across Japan. For the purposes of the deployment, VCAS was integrated with SeaChange's IP Video System, SkyStream's Mediaplex-20 video headend, and Buffalo's PC-STB1 set-top box. The prime systems integrator for the deployment was Itochu. VCAS is a software-based solution, which Verimatrix says is designed to address the increasing security requirements imposed on video-over-IP systems. It is built on the principles of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and X.509 digital certificates, and, according to Verimatrix, both protects content and video streams, and detects digital piracy at its point of origin.
