New Soap Opera to be Produced Exclusively for Mobile Phones

UK-based independent production house, Farringdon Road Films, says that it plans to launch what it claims will be the first soap opera to be produced exclusively for mobile phones. Entitled "Brick-it," the new youth-oriented show is scheduled to launch at the end of January. It will offer a new five-minute episode on-demand every weekday that will be viewable on 3G and 2.5G phones. Farringdon Road Films concedes that it has yet to finalize a distribution deal for the new show, but says that it is "adamant" that the episodes will be affordable and that mobile phone users who purchase those episodes will be protected from hidden charges and mobile spamming. The company says that the show has been produced by a team that has experience in TV and feature film production, and that it will feature actors whose experience ranges from roles in the "Harry Potter" movies to roles in the l ong-running BBC soap opera, "Eastenders." The direction and writing of the show will be designed to take into account the limitations of the mobile platform, the company says: the show will therefore have an emphasis on close-ups, and will have an unusually fast-paced plot. "This represents a major step-change in the production of downloadable content," Farringdon Road Films' series director, Henry Mason, said in a prepared statement. "Written and shot entirely for mobiles, we have produced an exciting and highly addictive soap series that people will be able to watch wherever they are, whenever they have five minutes to spare. This is surely the future of entertainment."
