Search engine giant, Google, has posted another job ad on its Web site--this time for an unspecified number of "software engineer, television technology" positions--that might provide some clues about its plans to enter the interactive TV space. (Note: in September, the company posted an ad seeking a product manager with experience in interactive TV, VOD, PVR and IPTV, for "GoogleTV"--see [itvt] Issue 6.28 Part 1.) "We are hiring well-rounded software engineers with a proven track record in creating and deploying robust high-volume interactive TV applications and services," the ad reads. The ad then goes on to list the requirements for the position:
- "BS/MS/Ph.D in CS or equivalent.
- Strong Java and/or C++ skills and object-oriented design experience, including working knowledge of core libraries, design patterns.
- Experience with interactive TV standards such as DVB, MHP, OCAP and DOCSIS.
- Experience deploying TV applications with cable and telecom partners across the world.
- Experience with Python, Javascript, XML, and SOAP a plus.
- Experience with user interface development for content-rich applications, cable and IPTV headend systems, and digital video technology in embedded systems a plus."
The position is located in Mountain View, Calif.
