Digeo Secures Two More Moxi Deployments

Moxilogo2005 Paul Allen-owned Digeo has secured two more deployments of its Moxi Media Center with regional cable operators. (Note: the Linux-based Moxi platform allows end-users to store, access and manage a variety of entertainment content, including digitally recorded TV programming, music, photos, games, and VOD titles, through a single, unified menu. The platform is notable for its interface, which has won two Emmy awards in succession, and which replaces the standard "spreadsheet" EPG interface with a so-called "cross-hairs" configuration, consisting of two intersecting animated lines at right angles to each other: customers use the left and right arrow keys on their remote control to scroll through a series of options on the horizontal line--e.g. Channels, Recorded TV, Find & Record, On Demand, Pay per View, Settings, etc.; they then use the remote's up and down arrow keys to scroll through the sub-listings of the currently highlighted option, which appear as a vertical line intersecting the line of options.) Service Electric Cablevision has deployed Moxi-based dual-tuner, HD-capable DVR's to customers in its service areas in Sunbury, Hazleton and Birdsboro/Kutztown, Pennsylvania, while Eagle Communications has begun deploying Moxi boxes to customers in Hays, Kansas and surrounding communities. According to Digeo, over 225,000 Moxi-based boxes have been deployed in around 80 North American cable markets to date: other customers include Charter, Adelphia, BendBroadband, NewWave Communications, Sunflower Broadband. The company claims that in markets where the Moxi Media Center is available, churn among DVR customers has declined more than 40% and VOD take-rates have grown to twice the industry average.
