VOD equipment provider, Concurrent Computer, and VOD applications provider, Vertasent (note: the latter offers an open network management solution, which it claims can enable a system's infrastructure that was originally installed for VOD narrowcast services, to be shared with multiple new services, such as Switch Digital Broadcast, Modular CMTS, Video Rich Navigation, and other interactive television applications), say that they are integrating their products and collaborating on the development of new VOD technologies. The companies say their products will be fully integrated and ready for commercial deployment by the end of the year. Among other things, they say they are working on open interfaces that will provide a "new level of product standardization" among VOD equipment. They claim that these will allow headend components from multiple manufacturers to work together without custom integration, thus reducing costs and accelerating time-to-market of new, revenue-generating services. The companies also say they will collaborate on the development of "next-generation and network management solutions" that will deliver "network level robustness."
