IPTV middleware and applications provider, Orca Interactive, says that it has signed an agreement with an unnamed "Western European telecommunications and data transmission carrier" that is planning to launch an IPTV service by the end of the year. According to Orca, the technologies enabling the service will be provided by a coalition of vendors, led by a major European systems integrator. Under the terms of its agreement with the carrier, Orca will sell the latter licenses for its RiGHTv IPTV middleware platform: it says the carrier has committed to purchasing 150,000 Orca licenses over a three-year period, and that 60,000 of the licenses will be purchased in the current financial year. Orca claims that the contract will generate "multi million Euro" revenues over the next three years and will contribute to its revenues this year. "I am delighted to be able to announce this win with a significant European player," Orca CEO, Haggai Barel, said in a prepared statement. "This deal has been won through one of Europe's leading system integrators and validates our strategy of building partnerships with the industry's biggest and best integrators and vendors."
