Atlanta-based interactive TV technologies and services provider, itaas, has launched a product called the VOD Session Simulator. The product, as its name implies, is a simulation tool that allows broadband operators and VOD service providers to identify potential bottlenecks and other problems in the system, and thus to fix them prior to deployment. According to the company, it simulates the live environment of hundreds of thousands of set-top boxes posing as Digital Storage Media-Command and Control (DSM-CC) clients to the Digital Control System/Session Manager to set up and tear down interactive sessions. In addition to allowing VOD service providers to test VOD environments under various simulated load conditions and patterns, identify problems in the system, and correct those problems before launch, itaas says, the new tool will allow broadband operators to determine the capacity load for their VOD systems. The tool also has multiple configurable parameters, which can be set depending on the operator's or VOD service provider's unique needs. "Giving our customers the ability to exercise their VOD system with realistic, real-world load conditions before actual deployment makes this tool indispensable for broadband operators and VOD service providers," itaas CTO, Jatin Desai, said in a prepared statement.
