At the CTAM Summit in Philadelphia earlier this week, Canadian DTV software company, ExtendMedia, unveiled a new, portable consumer interface for content service delivery using its OpenCASE platform. (Note: ExtendMedia positions OpenCASE as a modular, end-to-end platform for the creation, distribution and operation of secure subscription-based and on-demand content services; the platform's customers include Cablevision and Manitoba Telecom.) According to the company, the new interface provides a fully customizable, white label media acquisition, playback and management facility that allows network operators to deliver services "seamlessly" across networks and devices. The interface, which will be commercially available next quarter, is scaleable to support content and service delivery in broadband, wireless and DTV environments, the company says. "The
competitive threats facing operators are increasingly coming from the home entertainment devices, personal computing platforms, and large Internet content aggregators already integrated into consumers' lives," ExtendMedia CEO, Keith Kocho, said in a prepared statement. "This new interface, powered by our OpenCASE solution, provides a framework for operators to respond to these threats and stake out territory for their brand, content and services within the connected home."
